Strong IDC Participation at IEEE ICC 2026 in Glasgow

The IDC was strongly represented at this year’s International Conference on Communications (ICC 2026), held in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. IDC’s participation spanned leadership roles and scientific contributions. ICC is one of two flagship conferences of the IEEE Communications Society (COMSOC), alongside Globecom. It is recognized as a premier global forum for communications professionals and researchers to present and discuss the latest developments in the field.

Prof. Robert Schober attended the conference in his capacity as Past President of IEEE COMSOC. Dr.-Ing. Maximilian Schäfer, Teena tom Dieck, Dr. Vasileios Papanikolaou, and Timo Jakumeit presented their recent research in interactive sessions. Moreover, former IDC member Friedemann Laue placed third in the Four Minute Thesis (4MT) Competition, which challenges PhD students to explain their research project to a non-specialist audience in just four minutes.

Three conference papers from IDC/in collaboration with IDC were accepted for presentation:

  • “Modulation Schemes for Functionalized Vesicle-based MC Transmitters” by Teena tom Dieck
  • “HARQ-aided Optical-RIS Communications” co-authored by Dr. Vasileios Papanikolaou
  • “Mixture of Inverse Gaussians for Hemodynamic Transport (MIGHT) in Vascular Networks” by Timo Jakumeit

Additionally, Dr.-Ing. Maximilian Schäfer was invited to present a journal paper published in the IEEE Transactions on Molecular, Biological, and Multi-Scale Communications (TMBMC), titled “The CAM Model: An in Vivo Testbed for Molecular Communication Systems.

In addition to the technical sessions, ICC 2026 featured an engaging program with keynotes from industry leaders, panel discussions, industry forums, networking opportunities, and a conference banquet dinner.
