IDC’s Maximilian Schäfer attended the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Science and Technology in Society forum (STS forum) in Kyoto, Japan, from 4 to 6 October 2026, on behalf of Die Junge Akademie and the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. The forum brings together leaders from science, policy, industry, and the media from more than 80 countries and regions every year. This year’s programme included plenary sessions on digital sovereignty, trust in science, and the future of science diplomacy. Maximilian participated as part of the Young Leaders Program, which invites selected early-career researchers from around the world to take part in the forum and to engage in dialogue with Nobel laureates and senior leaders from science, politics, and industry.
